Ladies, don’t forget to do your monthly self check exam! Men, don’t forget to remind the important women in your lives! I’m going a step further tomorrow and getting a mammogram. Early detection is key to treating and curing breast cancer. My Aunt lost her long battle with breast cancer in 2004. Cancer sucks, no matter the kind.
School incentives is not a new thing at all. Schools use incentive programs to reward kids for following rules, reaching certain levels in programs like AR Reading, using good behavior, etc. My kids have been telling me about their incentives for many years. Some of the incentives they have worked towards includes parties, movie days, fun days, free days, homework passes and prizes. You get the drift…fun stuff!!
My sixteen year old rap star wanna-be son comes home from school the other day and, I kid you not, tells me that his class was given incentives; that if they do their work, they will get thirty minutes of free time outside. Well, that did not motivate my son at all. But, they found something that did. If he did his work, they would give him thirty minutes of….wait for it….NAP TIME!!!
Yup! Nap time!
“Mom! You don’t know how much that power nap worked for me…it made me feel so much better!”
The boy would not take a nap when he was little, but now he wants nap time. Go figure.
What motivates your teenager?
Tyler’s main tumor markers (his beta HCG) started to rise again after a drastic fall after he underwent a tandem stem cell transplant and HDC. It went from being a 7 (the lowest it’s ever been) to a 41 and rose again to a 159. Needless to say, the transplant was not the success we had hoped it would be.
After being at the Mayo Clinic in Florida for 3 months, he was able to return home. After spending a few days with friends and family, he made a very short trip up to Indianapolis to consult with Dr. Einhorn about what the next steps should be.
Dr. Einhorn wants to try him on a different kind of chemotherapy. It’s one day a week for three weeks, then a week off, then repeat. He wants to see Tyler back in his office after his second round is complete. He hopes to get his HCG levels to go back down and to get it stabilized at a 3. No higher. It was a 449 when they checked it at Dr. Einhorn’s office and a 776 by the end of that week.
Tyler has made some very positive changes in his life since coming back home from Florida. He has moved, changed caregivers and is 100% focused on getting better.
Please continue to pray for Tyler. Please pray for a complete healing for him, inside and out. He’s been through so much in such a short amount of time. Thank you so much for all the love, prayers and support! We are so thankful for everyone who has truly been there for him, who has rallied around him and supported him during these hard times.
We are still speaking, believing and praying for a miracle. We accept nothing less.
Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. 23 I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. 24 I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. 25 But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too. – Mark 11:22-25
