I’ve posted before about my husband’s love of washing clothes. He washes one load after the other, and then throws the clean, dried clothes into a laundry basket…or worse…the bed or a chair, where he expects them to magically fold themselves. Right now, my room looks like someone vomited clothes all over the place. I’ve not posted the other annoying thing he does with the laundry, something even worse than cleaning, drying and leaving them to wrinkle in a pile….he refuses to pre-treat stains. He lets the stains SET in the clothes…doesn’t even BOTHER to treat them at all!

I just bought a pretty yellow shirt a week ago. I got BBQ sauce on it and laid it aside to pre-treat before it got washed. What does he do? Goes behind me, throws it, along with his dark clothes, into the wash while I was otherwise occupied. What do I find later that day when I go to wash laundry? An empty hamper and an empty washer and dryer. I go to my room and lo and behold, there sits my yellow shirt on top of the pile of freshly laundered clothes….stain set it. I was hot. I’ve told him before to check for stains or ask me if there were stains that needed treatment before he goes wash happy with the laundry. Or, heck, only wash his own dang clothes and leave the rest alone! I think he has a weird addiction to doing laundry. He should be featured on the show, My Strange Addiction. Seriously, it’s bad. He needs an intervention.

Can this shirt be saved? I guess if I were Happy Homemaker or Martha Stewart, I would know what to do. But, I’m not. Does anyone have any super secret formulas geared to get stains out of clothing after they have been set in? Or do I need to throw my new PRETTY shirt into the rag bin along with the rest of the husband-damaged clothing? Maybe I should do a Pinterest search….

    Hi There!
So, your husband is anti-stain remover? Too funny! I’m following you back from What’s cooking in the burbs. No stain remover ideas ( I would probably just spray shout on it even after the stain had set in and hope for the best) I hope your shirt turns out okay! Have a great day!

Yes, yes he is anti-stain remover! LOL! He drives me batty. I put some kind of vinegar mixture stuff on it…hope it works because I LOVE that shirt! lol

LOL, I wish my husband had that addiction. Did you try googling set in stains? I hope you find your answer, have a bless week my friend.

It wouldn’t be so bad if he would fold the laundry he keeps washing! And maybe remove a stain or 20. I could have saved hundreds of shirts if he would have just pre-treated the stains! I did google early this morning, but nothing jumped out at me. I will keep looking! You have blessed week too =)

My husband loooves to do laundry. He also loves to leave the folding and putting away to the laundry fairies :/

Good luck with the stain. If it doesn’t come out maybe he can buy you a new one.

Doesn’t that drive you batty? Mine will do laundry a couple times a day…drives me batty because he leaves them all to me to fold and put away…and I hate folding laundry….I’d rather scrub the toilet. I know, I’m weird. Thank you!

I too have a husband who does the laundry – and for that I’m glad! I hate doing laundry. He does the folding too but then leaves it all sitting around in piles. That’s really not too bad…I can put the clean clothes away. As for pre-treating stains…he has no clue. My resolution is to not put anything that needs special handling into the hamper. He doesn’t actually go looking for laundry, so if it’s not handy he can’t wreck it. Just this past week though I must’ve put a sweater in the hamper that wasn’t machine washable…it actually disintegrated somehow. Came out as a pile of yarn. It bums me out but I’ll take the responsibility for it because I don’t want him to ever quit doing the laundry! LOL!

Haha! I don’t mind that he does the laundry…I just wish he wouldn’t do 3-4 loads in one day and expect me to fold them all or leave them laying around in various places. I actually had my shirt on top of the washing machine, stain facing out. Was hoping he would see it and leave it lol.

  • Oh my gosh I thought my husband was the only one who did this. My husband also washes clothes and then throws them on the bed or in the basket. We have had countless disagreements about this. I HATE wrinkly clothes and he knows it. So I told him if he is going to wash clothes make sure I have time to fold them. And if I do not and he still feels the need to wash he BETTER fold them. I have even had instances where he was working night shift and washed before work while I was not at home and when I went to go to bed my bed was full of clothes!!!

Yep, I’ve had to do the same! I should have clued in before I married him (still would have married him..even with knowing of this addiction)…he had one bed and a chair that was used just for clothes piling. I wish he wouldn’t get so wash happy all the time!

My fiance is the same way! I’m grateful that he washes and dries the clothes, but you won’t ever catch him hanging or folding anything! Since I seem to always be behind on everything domestic (a clingy baby will do that!) we tend to end up with several loads of clean but wrinkled clothes because no one has put them away properly. And he doesn’t seem to really get the importance of inspecting each garment for stains that need treated, either. Nor does he separate darks from lights, or wash the towels separately like I do. Still, I can’t complain. At least he tries to help, which is more than some significant others do. My daughters “help” but it’s like prying teeth from their heads to get them to do so, and then they never put things where they belong. I will find shirts I normally hang folded up in the bottom of my closet, and they will mix mine with the side of my fiance’s. I think they just really think if I can’t find my clothes I will stop asking them to help…it hasn’t worked yet! lol

Thanks for commenting on my blog. Can’t wait to see what you are doing to your daughter’s room. I was reading the comments on this post hoping to find a solution to getting rid of set in stains. My hubby doesn’t share this addiction, but I never check for stains so I could use some help there.
